![]() ![]() When Megan was released, Sophie was to meet her and help Megan adjust to post incarcerated life and to reunite Megan with the baby she birthed in prison. Sophie had begun reporting on Megan’s life in prison when she heard about the stillbirth of a different inmate’s baby. Fast forward twelve years and Sophie is a journalist celebrating the release of a female inmate whose life Sophie had been following through her writing and Hunt is a felon doing hard time for the murder of a federal agent. Marc “Hunt” Hunter and Sophie Alton had a moment in high school and then Hunt disappeared from Sophie’s life, seemingly forever. ![]() ![]() Even that short time clearly had an impact in the writing of this story. I read that you had gone into lockup overnight so as to experience what it was like incarcerated. However, the gritty and realistic feel that emanated from the pages of this book were captivating and made the book hard to put down. I admit to having some reservations about starting this book because I had a real hard time with the heroine in Hard Evidence. ![]() Jane B Reviews Agent/Spies/Undercover / captivity narrative / journalist / Pamela-Clare / road-romance / romantic-suspense 9 Comments MaREVIEW: Unlawful Contact by Pamela Clare ![]() ![]() As a result, we get a lot of screen time for the Seeker (Diane Kruger), an antagonistic alien charged with hunting down humans-a decidedly minor part of the book. Instead, what time it's got it squanders on half-hearted efforts to cram Meyer's meandering prose into a standard Hollywood action thriller. The movie, though, doesn't have room for the slow build that Meyer clearly loves. For Meyer, the slow building of trust is, admittedly, repetitive, but it at least is given enough space to take on some of the emotional weight that the plot calls for. ![]() Similarly, Wanda and Ian (Jake Abel) grow to know and love each other. Similarly Wanderer (or Wanda) is introduced to Mel's family and wins their trust. Melanie and Wanderer uncover layers and layers of each others' consciousness until they go from enemies to sisters. ![]() The whole point of the story is to get to know the alien strangers. The movie is two hours, but it feels not so much rushed as utterly adrift. ![]() ![]() At 800 pages, Meyer's novel is too long-but that is, as it turns out, better than being too short. The just-released movie, on the other hand, is simply a mess. The novel has the courage of its idiosyncratic vision. In fact, choosing exactly 50 comics was daunting. I’ve put together a list of 50 webcomics that I wish to share with you all. I devoured Diesel Sweeties and Order of the Stick and the many others that came along. As a kid, I grew up on a diet of newspaper funnies, but these webcomics were so much more edgy. Robots? Porn stars? D&D jokes? Sign me up!
